Product Description

Description:

Colorless non-combustible gases, inhalation of high concentrations of the goods gas anesthesia, is a low-toxic gases.

Octafluoropropane (C3F8) is a fluorocarbon non-flammable greenhouse gas that can be produced either by electrochemical fluorination or by the Fowler process using cobalt fluoride.

C3F8 Usage And Synthesis
General Description PERFLUOROPROPANE is a colorless, odorless gas. PERFLUOROPROPANE is relatively inert. The mixture is nonflammable and nontoxic, though asphyxiation may occur because of displacement of oxygen. Exposure of the container to prolonged heat or fire can cause PERFLUOROPROPANE to rupture violently and rocket.
Reactivity Profile PERFLUOROPROPANE is chemically inert in many situations, but can react violently with strong reducing agents such as the very active metals and the active metals. They suffer oxidation with strong oxidizing agents and under extremes of temperature.
Health Hazard Vapors may cause dizziness or asphyxiation without warning. Vapors from liquefied gas are initially heavier than air and spread along ground. Contact with gas or liquefied gas may cause burns, severe injury and/or frostbite. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases.
Fire Hazard Some may burn but none ignite readily. Containers may explode when heated. Ruptured cylinders may rocket.

Applications:

In the semiconductor industry, a mixed gas of octafluoropropane and oxygen is used as a plasma etchant and selectively interacts with the metal matrix of the wafer. In medicine, octafluoropropane can form the ultrasound contrast agent gas, and for ultrasound contrast imaging. The octafluoropropane microbubbles can effectively reflect the acoustic waves and are used to enhance the ultrasonic signal backscattering. In R-218, octafluoropropane can be used as a component of the refrigeration mixture in other industries.
